SUMMARY:Icons in Ink: The Jewish Comics Experience at the Maltz Museum - Beachwood\, OH
DESCRIPTION:Discover the powerful fusion of Jewish culture\, history\, and artistic expression through the lens of graphic storytelling in this dynamic traveling exhibition from the Center for Jewish History! \nIcons in Ink: The Jewish Comics Experience examines a wide range of Jewish themes and identities in comics\, recognizing the diverse roots that have contributed to this unique art form. The exhibition explores how the industry has evolved over the last century\, tackling subjects from identity and the combatting of antisemitism to the changing face of the medium itself. \nThe exhibition features original artworks\, rare archival pieces\, and historical artifacts spanning from classic newspaper strips to contemporary graphic novels\, highlighting iconic characters\, stories\, and creators. Visitors explore five distinct micro-exhibits that capture historic moments in the medium\, including The Jewish Origins of the Comic Book Industry\, Fighting Fascism\, A Brief History of Yiddish Comics\, Sephardi Identity and Memory in Comics\, and Mickey Mouse and Ashmedai: Hebrew Children’s Publications at a Momentous Time\, 1945-48. \nThe Maltz Museum’s presentation of The Jewish Comics Experience includes a new section focusing on Cleveland’s rich history of comic book creators and artists – CLEVELAND: HOME OF HEROES! \nThis exhibit also features a “comics laboratory”; an immersive area where visitors of all ages are invited to craft a comic book character through hands-on play with costumes and props. From Superman and Magneto to Captain American and Fantastic Four’s Thing\, visitors also learn the elements of sequential art and are instructed in the use of iconography to tell stories. By engaging with the tools of the form\, visitors immerse themselves in the process of making comics. \nExciting events and programming for all ages will be offered throughout the duration of The Jewish Comics Experience! \nSave the date: Sunday\, July 12th\, 2026 for a community-wide celebration featuring local and national comic book writers\, artists\, and fans. Check our Program Calendar Page for updates about this and other events as they become available.

DESCRIPTION:REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (1955) cemented James Dean as a cultural icon. He stars as Jim Stark\, a troubled teenager struggling with identity\, his first love\, and friendship in the midst of Los Angeles’ Mid‑Century suburbs.  Natalie Wood plays Judith\, Jim’s conflicted love interest\, while Sal Mineo isPlato\, a lonely and vulnerable teen. Jim Backus and Ann Doran portray Jim’s parents\, whose strained marriage intensifies his feelings of isolation. The film offers a raw\, gripping look at youth on the edge\, caught between self-discovery and the need to fit in. \nMany of the movie’s most memorable scenes were filmed on location in Los Angeles\, giving the story a vivid sense of place. The Griffith Observatory\, Santa Monica High School\, and streets throughout Hollywood and Ladera Heights provide a backdrop that is as iconic as the performances themselves\, rooting this timeless story firmly in the city that shaped it. \nReleased shortly after Dean’s tragic death\, REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE became a defining portrait of teenage rebellion. Its blend of emotional depth\, striking visuals\, and Los Angeles history makes it an unforgettable classic and a must-see on the big screen.
